Statement about MMG:

MMG is intended to be a mindfulness group, welcoming teaching from any source that resonates awareness & mindfulness of the moment. MMG is not intended to be a specifically Buddhist, Taoist, or attached to any religious belief system - even UU.

No affiliation is required to sit with MMG. You just need to show up on Tuesday night.

The impression that MMG is a Buddhist organization – most likely comes from the fact that the readings done by the volunteers most often come from sources that are identified as Buddhist. And the fact that the original members had their initial meditation experiences in Buddhist settings. The reason for the former is simply the sheer volume and ready availability of readings from these sources. But all readings are done by volunteers, so any mindfulness reading is certainly encouraged. And some of the readings are tinkered with by some of the readers to remove specific ‘ism’ references. Remember that anyone can do a reading – just sign up to do one.

And although much of the language used and concepts discussed – using words like dharma, sangha, true-self, etc. – are the same as those commonly used in Buddhism – it has more to do with the fact that Buddhism is the richest available source of mindfulness & awareness teaching than any intention to promote Buddhism.

MMG tries to encourage everyone to find there own ‘true self’ in their own meditation practice and the mindfulness of the moment.

MMG tries to provide guidelines rather than rules. Hopefully, each individual comes into their own mindfulness practice and establishes their own behaviors – with respect to posture, mudra, bowing, readings, discussion, setup, cleanup, and other levels of participation.
